What Sort Of Teacher Is This?
My jaws drop when I read in the front page of the New Paper today. It goes “Teacher who ordered deaf kids to slap each other says ‘What’s the big deal?’” I cannot believe what I read. Worst still it comes from a teacher.
What is the world coming to? A teacher would say such a thing after the incident? What sort of students is this teacher trying to shape? Students who think and accept that violence is acceptable? Are we trying to tell our future generation that using violence is an acceptable way of life? Are we trying to say that it is OK to whack another person?
Here is a classic example of what I would called, an “immoral teacher”. How can a teacher after doing t and still says “What’s the big deal?” Doesn’t she show any remorse? By asking the kids, and especially such young kids, to slap one another, is already a wrong message that this teacher is sending across and yet still says that it is no big deal? This is terrible!!!
As I hear of more stories about teachers, it saddens me, especially for me as an educator myself. Did I relate the incident that happen to my daughter in her school? If I had repeated, pardon me. Anyway the story goes like this. She brought her handphone to school and somehow was with her when she went to the class. Yes, it was her mistake for bringing the handphone to the class when told not to. Then one of the teacher came to the class, can’t remember whether it was the disciplinary mistress or not. This teacher asks the class who had bought the handphone to the class. She asks them to own up and she will keep it for them till the end of the lesson. So my daughter honestly owned up, though many did not. Shocking!!! When she owned up the teacher instead of keeping it for her, told her that it will be confiscated! Instead of keeping to her words, she made a 180 degree changed to her words! Definitely my daughter was furious, here she is trying to be honest but the teacher acted in a very dishonorable way. What was she trying to teach the youngster? Is she trying to tell them that they should not be honest and honesty does not pay? Sometimes, educators need to be weary of their action and speech. What they sowed will eventually be reaped in this youngster
Just like the teacher featured in the newspaper. She is definitely sending all the wrong message to our youngster. I hope that my readers will also see to the fact that how you act and your speech does convey a strong message to all those around you.
